Luxury 3-bedroom self-catering cottage on Corsewall Estate

Country Holiday Cottage with a log burning stove

Home Farm Cottage is located in the heart of the magical Corsewall Estate on the coast in Dumfries & Galloway. Surrounded by woodland bursting with birdsong in spring and summer and overlooking extensive lawns, it has pretty views onto the old walled kitchen garden. This recently and extensively restored 4-star self-catering three-bedroom cottage is an ideal base for couples or families to explore Dumfries & Galloway and south west Scotland.

Accommodation

The front door of this classic ‘gingerbread box’ luxury holiday cottage leads to an entrance hall off which is a large open plan sitting room to the left. To the right, there is a double bedroom with a king size bed and en-suite shower room. The dining kitchen is off the sitting room and has its own entrance from the private car parking area.

Upstairs at our luxury country estate holiday cottage in Dumfries & Galloway with a log burning stove, there is one double bedroom which can either be arranged as a twin or a super-king, whilst across the landing there is a further single bedroom. Off the landing is the house bathroom.

Oil fired central heating and a log burning stove in the sitting room, combined with huge amounts of insulation, make this a very warm and cosy home.

Home Farm Cottage has its own private patio garden area with garden furniture, a large log store and bike shed. To the front are extensive lawns and a tennis court for all our guests’ use.

Situation

Our pretty country estate holiday cottage in Dumfries & Galloway with a log burning stove is located in over 20 acres of gardens and woodland, there are lots of wonderful woodland walks and coastal paths around the 1000-acre estate and down to the sea that you can enjoy. In late January and February, the woods feature charming drifts of snowdrops followed by daffodils in March. In April and May the hue turns to purple with acres of bluebells. There is colour in the gardens almost all the way through the year starting with Camellias during January and Magnolias in March, followed with a riot of colour in April and May from the Rhododendrons and Azaleas. Indeed, one Rhododendron, known as ‘Christmas Cheer’, flowers in December and January. The autumn sees the Hydrangeas providing colour all the way through to November.

Wildlife

There is oodles of wildlife to spot around the cottage – from roe deer and hares to barn owls, woodpeckers and most importantly, this area is one of the last bastions of the red squirrel. There are numerous dedicated squirrel feeders dotted about the gardens and woods.

Walks

Home Farm Cottage is a 5-10 minute walk to the village pub, the Blue Peter.

Walk down to the shores of Loch Ryan and around Wig Bay and the Scar – a circular walk along Loch Ryan shoreline and back into the village of Kirkcolm. The Scar, a sandbank which juts out into Loch Ryan, is home to one of the largest colonies of nesting migrant terns in the region.

From an historical perspective, during the Second World War, Wig Bay was used as a base for the flying Catalina boats – you’ll see evidence of this on your walk and also throughout the woods at Corsewall Estate, which was requisitioned by the RAF during the War.

Great for kids

We’ve got lots to keep children busy on the estate at our pretty country estate holiday cottage in Dumfries & Galloway with a log burning stove. Directly in front is our singles tennis court, which guests are welcome to use.

The woods immediately beside the lawns close to Corsewall House (a few minutes’ walk from Home Farm Cottage) are a dedicated children’s fun zone. There is a 60-foot zip wire, which has been well tested by children (and some adults) alike! Next door, there’s a climbing frame, which comes complete with a climbing wall, lookout house with binoculars to spot pirates/baddies, a very whizzy slide, three swings, including one for toddlers and a terrific back-to-back glider.

Additionally, kids can bounce to their heart’s content on the 14-foot trampoline on the edge of the lawns. There’s also a campfire area in the woods – perfect for toasting marshmallows. Finally, for smaller children, we have Wendy house with a toy cooker and lots of picnic/cooking paraphernalia and a pretty veranda.

Just in case it rains, we also have a games room, with table tennis and an air hockey table in one of the stables.

Cottage amenities

The cottage is equipped with a smart television, Freeview Box, Roberts Revival Bluetooth digital radio, Wi-Fi, a selection of board games and books. The beds come with super thick, feather-filled duvets, all bed linen and large fluffy towels. It also has a dishwasher, washing machine, fridge, freezer, hob and electric oven.

We provide a welcome pack for guests on arrival including a jar of incredibly edible, home-made Corsewall brownies, local milk, bread, jam, butter, tea, coffee and fresh flowers from the garden (when in season). You’ll find the cottage well equipped with the general basics too from washing up liquid and bin bags to washing powder and loo paper.

Home Farm Cottage has its own private garden including garden furniture and a barbecue. A cot and highchair are available on request.
