It’s April and the gardens at Corsewall Estate are really coming into their own – Magnolias, Rhododendrons, Azaleas, Daffodils and even gorgeous bluebells abound.

It is undoubtedly one of the best times of year to visit the ‘Rhins Riviera’ and all the gardens in this tropical corner of south west Scotland.

Here’s a quick tour of some of the current colours to be seen in the gardens at Corsewall Estate – all close to Garden Cottage, Stables Cottage and Home Farm Cottage and within a short drive of High Clachan Farmhouse:

What could be more pleasing than some leisurely garden tour of the gardens that Galloway has to offer:

Castle KennedyGlenwhan and Logan House – all with their very varied landscapes and plant species. Bursting with exotic colours, they are full of inspiration for keen gardeners or simply beautiful and peaceful places in which to enjoy a relaxing stroll.  They are all within a 20-30 minute drive of Corsewall Estate Holiday Cottages.

Logan Botanic Garden – the Royal Edinburgh Botanics’ most southerly outpost, a 30-minute drive from our luxury self-catering cottages here at Corsewall, and aptly described as ‘a plantman’s paradise’ – is one of the country’s most exotic gardens where many varieties of plants from the southern hemisphere flourish warmed by the Gulf Stream.  The Potting Shed is a great place for a cup of tea or an excellent lunch.  Don’t resist the raspberry cheesecake!

Further east, at Castle Douglas, Threave Garden and Estate is most definitely a garden for all seasons, but in particular, it has a wonderful display of spring flowers to see.  Created and developed over the years by the students of the NTS’ School of Heritage Gardening, Threave is divided into smaller areas to display many different species of plants including a rose garden, a rockery and a magnificent walled garden.
