Apologies for mentioning the C word when even the supermarkets haven’t brought out the tinsel and the mince pies, but given that it’s only 100 days to Christmas, I thought it wouldn’t do any harm to flag up our availability at our four-star luxury holiday cottages in south west Scotland for the festive week.

We have five cottages in rural Galloway on the magical Rhins peninsula sleeping from 5 to 8 people in addition to our Edinburgh apartment, which sleeps 4, available for Christmas.

With the latest Coronavirus guidelines in Scotland allowing a maximum of six from two households, our two larger houses which sleep 8 – Cedar Lodge in Portpatrick and High Clachan Farmhouse on Corsewall Estate would suit two families of four, who have two or more children 12 years or under.

High Clachan Farmhouse, with a large conservatory – great for star gazing on clear winter nights, a sitting room with a wonderful heat giving wood burning stove, large kitchen with a dining area complete with antique dining table and vintage church pews for seating, has four bedrooms, three of which have en suite bathrooms.  If you’re looking for a get away from it all bolthole, then look no further.  There are lots of bracing walks around the estate and down to the sea – perfect if you want to bring your dog or just want to work off the odd indulgence over the festive period.

Also sleeping eight, Cedar Lodge in Portpatrick has beautiful sea views and four bedrooms all with en suites.  It has a large open plan sitting room and kitchen with a dining area – a great focal point for festive family get-togethers. It’s the perfect location for exploring the nearby beaches and bracing walks along the start of the Southern Upland Way.

Cedar Lodge’s Christmas tree

The charming Garden Cottage, which sleeps six and has three bedrooms – all with en suite bathrooms has wonderful sea views and an electric wood burning style stove.

Garden Cottage – all decorated for Christmas and New Year

Home Farm Cottage, a beautiful chocolate box cottage, which comfortably accommodates five guests, has three bedrooms and a cosy log burning stove.  With pretty rural woodland views, it is a 10-minute walk from the beach.

All cottages come all decorated for the festivities with a Christmas tree, decorations on the mantelpieces and a welcoming wreath on the front door.

If a city break for Christmas is what you are looking for, our central apartment on Bellevue Terrace is a great base from which to explore Edinburgh on foot.  Our ground floor, main door pad, which sleeps 4, has two bedrooms – one double and a twin, a large sitting room, a dining kitchen and bags of charm.
