September now hosts two fabulous festivals in Wigtownshire, south west Scotland – the Stranraer Oyster Festival and the Wigtown Book Festival.  Both events are within easy reach from our luxury self catering holiday accommodation on a Coastal Estate in Galloway.

Stranraer Oyster Festival

Loch Ryan is home to Scotland’s oldest and finest native oysters.  Stranraer Oyster Festival, on the shores of Loch Ryan, is a phenomenally successful three-day celebration of seafood and music.  With inspiring cookery demonstrations from celebrity chefs, Tony Singh and Clodagh McKenna earlier this month, it was a resounding sell-out.  Testimony to its runaway success, I gather the organisers are already planning next year’s Festival in September 2023.

Wigtown Book Festival

The Wigtown Book Festival, held in Wigtown, Scotland’s National Book Town in 1999, runs from Friday, 23rd September – Sunday, 2nd October 2022.  It is a wonderful 10-day celebration of literature, music, food and the visual arts, with bestselling authors including the celebrated historical fiction writer, Robert Harris and the BBC’s international editor, Jeremy Bowen.

Corsewall Estate Holiday Cottages, which offers luxury self catering holiday accommodation on a coastal estate in Galloway, is delighted to sponsor one of the events this year – Gone Fishing, on Sunday, 2nd October with authors Andrew Douglas-Home and Malachy Tallack who share their passion for fishing and why angling is a metaphor for life.

On a personal level, we’ve already booked our tickets (sorry about the pun there!) for a number of events, including Jamie Blackett, who is talking about his latest book, Land of Milk and Honey: Digressions of a Rural Dissident and Jeremy Bowen discussing the making of the modern Middle East.  Although the latter is sold out, there are over 200 other events for adults and children from which to choose.
